FAQs:
Q.
What is Japanese hair straightening?
Japanese hair straightening (a.k.a.Japanese thermal hair retexturizing, thermal
reconditioning. TR,
Japanese straight perm etc...) is a revolutionary system that straightens
wavy, curly, frizzy or/and
unruly hair permanently.
Unlike regular relaxers, Japanese hair straightening works deep inside of your hair to a "permanent" straightening.
Here are the brief steps of how it works.
1. First solution will make the bonds of the waves loosen and cut
(Hair will get stretchy, like elastic band)
2. Flat ironing will smooth and reshape the hair
(Just like you iron the fabric to smooth out the wrinkles)
3 Second solution (neutralizer) will set and memorize the new shape.
Q. How long does it last?
Now your hair is like shape memory alloy (memory metal).
It lasts until it grows out. Typically, clients come in for a touch up of roots every 4 to 6 months.
Q.
Japanese hair straightening vs Keratine (Brazilian) Blowout?
Japanese hair straightening lasts about 6 months with minimal maintainence. Keratine Blowout is not permanent straightening and lasts about 2-3 months with moderate maintainence. Blowouts are not recommended to straighten heavily frizzed hair.
Q. My hair is chemically treated already. Can I still
get Japanese hair straightening?
It all depends on the condition of your hair.
Here is some info that may give you an idea.
If you have only single process color service (like gray coverage, semi permanent,
Etc...) or high lights with the permanent color
Unless your hair is severely damaged, it should not be that much of the problem.
If you have double process color service (your entire hair is colored first
and high lights with bleach)
or highlights with bleach. Consultation is a must and if possible, get the
strand test!
If you have another type of relaxer or the regular perms, consultation is
a must.
Make sure you tell the stylist which kind of perm solution was used.
To get the best result, you should get your hair straightened first, then
after 10-14 days get the color.
REMEMBER!s You should always have a consultation with
the stylist!
Q. How often should I do this?
Average is 4-8 months however:
It all depends on your hair and how you can handle it.
If your hair is very long and your hair is not that wavy at the roots, you
may only need to do it once a year.
But if you have short hair and your have very tight curls at the roots, you
may want to do it every 3 months.
Most of our clients can tell when it's due. (You know because one day you
just can't do your hair anymore.)
If there is 2 inches of regrowth. (which is about 3-4 months), we can perform
it.
Q How can I take care of my new hair?
Whether you got Japanese hair straightening or not, We ALWAYS RECOMMEND using
the blow-dryer to dry
your hair. Because hair is the most fragile when it is wet, and leaving it
wet for a long time cause the cuticle
closing unevenly and/or breaking. Your hair could end up looking dry, dull
and less shine. Drying your hair quickly
using blow-dryer closes the cuticle nice and flat, making the hair silkier
and shinier.
First you can pat dry excess moisture, use products little bit for protection
(like leave in conditioner spray or
shine drop etc...)When using blow dryer, dry from roots to the ends (one direction)
You can use your hand or big, fat paddle brush to dry. You don't need to put
the tension to your hair (no pulling.
Your hair is not curly anymore!)
At the end, you can put a little bit on the product if necessary.
Q. What if I want to wear my hair wavy sometimes?
After the first wash (With liscio system, after 48hours)
You can style your hair the way you want. You can use curling iron or hot
rollers to have some waves or you
can use flat iron to make it even sleeker and flatter.
However, using too much can cause damage or dryness of the hair.
So, use extra care when using curling iron or flat iron.
(Use them on 100% dried hair and use the product for protection. Try lower
heat setting first)
Q Do I have to use special shampoo and conditioner?
After all, your hair is chemically treated so products made for chemically
treated hair would be a better choice. What we recommend more of anything
is to do a deep conditioning treatment regularly. All you have to do is to
put a good deep conditioning treatment and shower cap on shampooed and towel-dried
hair for 15 minutes (or more if you can). It will make a huge difference!!
